86-90  Extremely Intelligent!!

This quiz is not scientific but can help us capitalize on our strengths and identity traits that can be improved.  It’s a list gleaned from the various IQ and intelligence tests found posted online designed to grab your attention in order to bombard you with advertisements.  In doing so they trivialize a complex subject.  However there’s many ways we can increase our intelligence. Our brains are not hard wired. The brain is malleable and new pathways emerge when we challenge ourselves to do new things. This becomes even more important as we age.

Here are some things that I often see when browsing articles on the subject.

  1. Take music lessons if you’ve never had music. We know for certain that when children start music at an early age it improves their performance in academics outside of music. As we age learning music takes more time, but with diligence and perseverance the reward is gratifying.
  2. Learn a second language.
  3. Do things that keep your mind active such as crossword puzzles and memory games.
  4. Strive for optimal health. Exercise regularly doing both aerobics and strength training. Lose the extra pounds, Eat a healthy diet that’s primarily fresh fruits and vegetables, quality protein and high fiber grains. Avoid fast food and processed foods.
  5. Have lots of sex. That’s what the experts say!  I’m not going to question their expertise!  And if you were a virgin when you finished your PhD you have some catching up to do!
  6. Take on a new hobby or activity that keeps your mind engaged. Curiosity is good, and if you don’t have a cat, no worries!
  7. Take yoga and/or meditation. Stress interferes with the brain’s ability to function so activities that reduce stress are crucial.
  8. You may be a night owl but make sure you get plenty of sleep. It’s crucial for optimal brain function.
  9. Don’t increase your stress by reading articles or taking quizzes online that have “next” buttons!
